Sample round
This is a walkthrough of a round. Another article explains the
Game Interface.
Let's assume we have three players: Alice, Bob and Carol.
You will see only what Alice sees.
Start of Round 1
The first round has a minimum requirement of Two Sets of 3, which means any
player must present Two Sets of 3 cards of the same rank before they are allowed
to take any other actions.

other actions
Each player receives nine cards.
and the next card from the deck is shown as the initial discard, which is
Alice's Turn 1
Alice has been dealt:
Since we're looking for Sets (cards of the same rank), Alice is pleased to start out with a wildcard and two
pair:
She decides that the discard does not help her hand, so she passes it to the next
player (Bob), along with the top card from the deck. Alice gets the next card from the deck:
Alice is well on her way of having two sets of three, but since she doesn't have it yet, her only option
is to discard a card.
She might later be able to make a run out of the Clubs, so she discards
This ends her turn.
Bob and Carol's turn 1
Bob takes the discard from Alice, and ends his turn by discarding
Carol doesn't need that, so she passes it to Alice, along with the next card from the deck, which Alice sees
as
Carol gets the next card from the deck, and finally discards
Alice's turn 2
Alice's hand is now:
Alice determines that the discard does not help her, so she passes it to Bob with the top card off
the deck. Alice gets the top card
Alice's hand is now:
She has a Run of Clubs (six of them, actually), but this does not help her meet the minimum of Two Sets. She's
got a wildcard an pairs:
She is still one card short of having two Sets. The only card she doesn't seem to need right now is at
either end of the run. She discards
Bob and Carol's turn 2
Bob takes the discard and makes the following plays:
and ends his turn by discarding
Carol takes the discard, and still unable to make the minimum, discards
Alice's turn 3
The discard is one of the cards Alice has been waiting for! She picks it up and plays:
Now that Alice has met the minimum, she can now make additional plays, like the Run she's been
holding:
then adding to it
The cards left in her hand at this point:
. If she had a three or a ten, she could have
added to those melds. She can only discard, and chooses
to Bob.
Bob and Carol's turn 3
At this point, the following melds have been played:
Bob covers and passes the discard, picking the next card from the deck, and uses the
from his hand to buy the wildcard from the set of
fours. With the wildcard, he plays
and discards
to Carol.
Carol passes the discard to Alice, covered with
. Still unable to meet the minimum, she
discards
Alice's turn 4
The melds now look like this:
Alice is currently holding
. She takes the discard and uses her
to buy the wildcard from the Run of Hearts. She then plays
.
Finally, she discards her last card and wins the round.
End of Round One: Counting penalties
Bob and Carol need to add up the penalties for cards they are holding. No one has to count the discard.
Again, the point values:
- Wildcards are 25 points
- Aces are 15 points
- 10, Jack, Queen, and King are 10 points
- 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 9 are 5 points
Added up, the points look like this:
Player | Cards | Penalty | Total |
---|
Alice | no cards | 0 | 0 |
Bob | | (5x4)+(2x10) | 40 |
Carol | | 25+(5x5)+(10x4) | 90 |
Note that until Carol met the minimum for the round, she could not discard cards that could be played
on existing melds. Carol could not discard either of
Cards are shuffled and dealt for Round 2, which would start with Bob, since Alice went first in Round 1.
